Data center IP detection: spot cloud and hosting traffic
People usually connect from home, office or mobile networks. Traffic from cloud and hosting IPs is often a server, a bot, a VPN or a proxy. We check it against the IP ranges published by the cloud companies themselves and a list of hosting company networks.
What we check
Cloud company and region (Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Cloudflare, DigitalOcean, Akamai Linode)
Official IP ranges published by each company, refreshed daily
Hosting and colocation networks
Hosting ASN list (about 750), refreshed daily
When to use it
- Filter bot and automated sign-ups and logins
- Remove server traffic from ad clicks and visitor statistics
- Stop free trial abuse
- Find connections that quietly scrape the pages meant for people instead of using an API
Good to know
- Legitimate traffic from company servers (office proxies, work VPNs) also shows up as a data center.
- Small hosting companies that are not on the list can show up as regular networks.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a Cloudflare IP a data center?
Traffic coming directly from Cloudflare ranges is a service such as Cloudflare WARP or Workers. If your site is behind Cloudflare, take the visitor's real IP from the CF-Connecting-IP header.
Try it on your own IP first
Checking your own IP is free. Other IPs and the API come with a plan.
